Australia without Melbourne
Getting up early in the morning is one of my favorite activities when I'm at home, so why should this change when I go on holidays and traveling ... I think my travel partner and I don't quite agree on something here.
But it was out of Melbourne (my first opportunity to turn right at an intersection by going into the leftmost lane) and towards an even more southern part of Australia. Luckily the sun finally came out of the hiding spot it has been over the last two days, before going further south would have resulted in death by instant popsicle.
There is a programming language called Oberon, and discussions were had whether the inventor of Oberon was inspired by Mt. Oberon, the 550m tall hill we decided to climb. The theory turned out to be rubbish as it was named after the Moon of Uranus, but the view was absolutely spectacular anyway. Of course we can't resist slapping a Polarizing filter over the camera to make the sea and sky even more shiny, but the ocean as seen with the eye already looked almost photoshopped. Spectacular colours, very clear, and occasionally we could even spot the occasional nanometre long ant riding the waves on a surfboard.
Closer to sea-level we found Squeaky Beach. According to the travel booklet we found, it's named such as the sand squeaks as you walk through it. Perhaps it's a barefoot thing as we didn't really manage, but the sand was still more like a powder than anything else. The beaches around here are certainly spectacular, even by the spoilt standards of Australia. :-)
