Deutsches Museum

The whole reason for stepping foot in Bavaria in the first place was that I got high recommendations for the Deutsches (German) Museum. And universally, it didn't matter who I talked to, everyone assured me that one day would not be enough and that I need to be strategic in terms of my plan of what I wanted to see and what I would need to miss out on.

Unfortunately I have visited in what feels like the peak school student time. All the kids from states that have holidays were there with their parents. All the kids from states that were in their last weeks before holidays were there with their teachers. It took an hour just to make it through the entrance gates. And when I wanted to see the model railway presentation, I tried to stand up in the back row but couldn't see a thing through the 500 kids between me and the railway.

From the things that I was able to occasionally glance between some kids was cool though. A calculator with its components suspended from wire to be presented in the exploded style that you can usually only get in diagrams, a synthesiser with a plugboard that you could adjust and change, the cockpit of a full size airliner. Unfortunately the experience was a little hampered by the sheer amount of people as well as the fact that by the time we arrived, my feet were already aching. And after a few hours of waddling in slow motion through the museum, the rest of my body was ready to kill me too.

I think the lesson is learnt though, I need to come again, when it's less popular, and with fresh feet.

München the city did not grow on me in the mean time. 15 minutes before closing the skies had another 'let's see how far the tap opens' moment. And then again while we were waiting for something at a subway exit. So we went back home, to sit out the rain before we move on tomorrow. Unfortunately, the forecast for tomorrow involves yet more rain, as well as a top temperature that's only marginally warmer than the winter temperatures back home. Aren't I glad that I brought my winter coat and kept it in the boot of the car "just in case".
