Flamëéèêeeeencõōooo
Madrid really is a night time city. Besides finding somewhere nice to relax, a lot of activities around here seem to be more bouncy during the night than they are during the day. As a result, we seemed to sleep through a good part of the morning again, and then went to the pool.
Even though we were told upon arrival to the hotel that "not all of Spain is Flamenco", we thought we should at least take a look. So we booked a show with a place who's reviews did not contain constant complaints about "had to ask to be moved three times before we got a table from which we could actually see the stage and not a pillar". The result … Flamenco is loud, and the singing contains a lot of … not my thing. Which is probably a little bit sad as the solo guitar playing in one of the interludes was awesome. Our choice in venue certainly paid of though in terms of view, considering that we had a table directly in front of the stage. This was possibly not much of an achievement considering that there were all of 10 viewers for this show. While this city might be more bouncy at night, Wednesday night does not appear to the be killer night.
Since Spain isn't all Flamenco though, we also tried to find ourselves a Jazz club, recommended by the guide, and described for staying open till 2:30 in the morning. This might have been true. The show however had already finished at 22 (we arrived at midnight, thinking this would be prime time). And while we thought this was a Jazz club, the show of the day was more Flamenco. So ... that was a bit of a flop.
This was however our last night in Madrid. From here we start a slow and gradual process of speeding around to the other end of the planet. I've been informed that the weather forecast at our destination is terrible and still most definitely winter. Maybe I can still find some space in my suitcase to pack a bit of summer and bring it with me.
