Last Shopping Opportunity
Our last day in Japan, and apparently this meant that we had to get all of the souvenir for the jealous people back home. Travelling in a slow zigzag pattern across Tokyo, we got enough stuff to empty our accounts, and then helped each other closing our suitcases by jumping up and down.
But I did manage to get my traditional trip to Odaiba, overlooking the now very Rainbow Bridge, and unfortunately freezing shortly after getting myself comfortable with the view. I guess that wasn’t too bad though considering that by the time we got home, it was already midnight again, and I wasn’t too keen on having another near last train experience. One of the trains we could have taken home was in fact packed to the point of people using their whole weight to push their way onto the train. That was the point where we chose a less popular route that we could comfortably sit down and relax on.
Our banks are certainly happy to see us leaving the country. Korea was nice to our wallet but Japan seems to have produced a black hole in them. Possibly a little too much souvenir shopping, but even trains just around Tokyo could quickly accumulate to $20 over the course of a day.
For future reference, one of my travel companions has put together a list of how to describe Japan
Cars:
- Crown (Toyota Crown, used as a Taxi everywhere)
- Box (very practical car, if a bit clunky looking)
- Tampon (Toyota Prius, apparently this is a reference to some TV show)
Scenery:
- Pink (a favourite colour)
- Fluffy (in case pink fails)
- Bright (there are lights literally everywhere)
- Loud (at least from the perspective of someone who lives in a village like … Australia’s capital)
- Tits (cartoon ones, in no sizes less than melons, also shiny and usually a slightly different colour from the face)
As sad as we are to go, the warmer temperatures of our next destination are going to be very welcome, especially since I appear to have managed to catch a cold that feels like it’s trying to suffocate me. Either way, I have a flight which I need to prepare for tomorrow, so good night Japan.
P.S.: Bonus video for going over the bridge. Tomorrow however might be a bit more blank in the blog department, trying to get to our new destination.
