Melbourne Night
Jumping straight from a 20 hour day involving Sydney straight into a car headed for Melbourne. The day was going to involve roughly the same amount of driving as the previous one except that this time it was for a one way trip.
But I certainly had my eyes opened about what the different corners of Australia actually have on offer. Up to now I've been to every state in this country, some of them more briefly visited than others. But following a tram and hearing all the accompanying sounds triggered a feeling of nostalgia certainly not associated with anything in Australia.
I've been heard accusing this country as not having a single city on offer, on numerous occasions. I may not quite withdraw that statement, but I may not want to be heard saying it quite as loudly. Not after I've finally discovered that Trams in Australia are not in fact a myth.
Similarly when I had a look at our hotel room number of 1602. My first reaction was around the lines of: 'Is that on the sixteenth floor? Does this place even have something like that?' For me, everything in Australia was either a business skyscraper (and one I would have no business in), or ended after the fourth floor. I was however shown how wrong I was when I discovered that the place even had a 24th floor.
Tomorrow I will get to enjoy this city to its fullest extent for the entire day, and discover more about this strange phenomena within Australia. And I do sure hope that it will be warmer than tonight or someone is going to have to bring the fire brigade at some point and instruct them to light a fire under me. I was going to a coast and evidently forgot just how much closer I had gotten to Antarctica.
P.S. Not eliminating the possibility that I fell asleep behind the wheel and accidentally drove to a country with cities again. The trip took long enough to be international.
PP.S. Sorry no pictures. We only went out briefly during the night and left the tripod.
