Melbourne post Avalon
My travel companions decided to sneak out of the house without me this morning, letting me sleep in a bit. But to not worry me too much, they also then sent me a message telling me they went out, which buzzed my wrist, which woke me up. Which was probably a good thing as my bed this time around is in a cupboard with no light and nothing that would otherwise tell me that waking up would be a good idea. So I relocated to the livingroom, and promptly fell asleep again at the excitement that is watching people play cricket outside the window.
After my travel companions had had their breakfast, and after only having eaten one thing yesterday, my stomach decided to chime in and submit a request for breakfast too. So I promptly ignored it till I walked past the Munich Brauhaus, a place that I had previous walked past without a second glance on many a previous occasion. Checking the menu, I spotted a Pretzel, immediately ordered it, and then waited. 20 minutes later of watching the waitstaff bustling around me in their typical german Dirndl dresses, I got my fresh warm Pretzel and finally continued on my walk. The result: very respectable. The Jägermeister ads and music may not be my taste, but I think I will need to return again for those Pretzels.
Other than that, we basically just spent the day soaking up the feel of the city. The noise of the trams, the bustle of people, the confusing street names, and the type of specialty shops you need a city to sustain. For one of my travel companions, it was their first time here. And while we may have failed as the 'These are the top 5 things to do in Melbourne in a day' type of tourguides, at least we got them to the casino … for the flamethrowers. What else would you do at a casino?
Tomorrow it's back home again. Duty calls for us all at the moment. For some of us that generally work weekends, the excuses apparently had to be a little creative for even this little trip.
