Melbourne with blue sky
Unfortunately, blue sky might mean that it is slightly prettier, but it also means that it was quite a bit colder. Well, I guess you can't have everything. Except perhaps in summer, where they even throw a sunburn in for free.
Australians seem to have an odd idea when it comes to their image of German beer. A prominent German pub in down town has a pedal operated carriage thing which people voluntarily drive around the area, with a speaker on the front blasting proper German pub music. Or so people probably are supposed to believe. The songs certainly don't get better from being able to understand the words, not to mention that if the songs were in English, you wouldn't be able to play them in public due to the profanity.
A lot of the day was spent walking around the docks, lying on grass and drinking hot chocolate, waiting for the light to vanish so that Melbourne can blind us with its brilliance in the night. Very relaxing but not the best blog stories.
Our Chinatown adventure landed us in Ramen shop (yes, very Chinese) which had a surprisingly accurate Japanese culture. Down to the yelling from the kitchen greeting every guest, and the attention to detail of verifying every selection on your order, and the freezing queue outside the shop (brrrr).
After freezing our noses off all day, we welcomed the flamethrowers in front of the casino throwing a few fireballs into the air. They were big enough to be felt from the other side of the river, and definitely big enough to warm someone standing directly below them. Pity they only fire once an hour.
Tomorrow will be a rather uneventful day involving lots of driving and putting our feet up after all the walking. Luckily this is not the end of my holidays, but it is the end of my Melbourne trip.
