Nagoya (名古屋市)

Some of us wanted to still take the last opportunity to see Kyoto before we bail, so they set themselves the adventures plan of getting up at 6:30. Yeah … um … if there’s one thing that I’ve learnt on this trip do far it’s that none of us are particularly graceful at getting up in the morning. But at least the morning still went smooth. We caught all of our trains without having to run. And we found enough coin lockers to store the luggage of a small army.

Toyoda still has an impressive museum, which I could look at a little bit more relaxed this time. It’s impressive what old machines they have still operational, and the fact that they have proper assembly line robots for demonstrating the construction. Toyota makes some well engineered stuff, now the just have to make a car that I’d also actually want to drive.

The Nagoya City Science Museum was special though. Hardly any English but lots of sweet diagrams that transcended any language barriers. I don’t think I managed to put on the same shocked faces some of the diagrams seemed to suggest I was supposed to have though. And I know the picture doesn’t really do it justice, but their Tesla coils were a must experience. And when they ask you to cover your ears, it’s a very good recommendation to follow.

Arrival in Tokyo was very painless. Everything just clicked, the apartment was right where it said it would be, but it’s been a long day and the Tokyo exploration will have to wait for tomorrow. Oh, I wonder what I’ll see first.
