Rooster Dominance

For the first time in like half a year, I have woken up and actually felt awake. Oh holidays, how I have missed you. We'll ignore the part that it was 10:30 by the time that I finally appeared from behind my bedroom door.

After a while of not working out what exactly we wanted to do today, we simply found a vague direction, and followed various signs. Basically, lookouts, wineries and industrial waste (coffee) factories. And whilst my friends were enjoying the wine tasting, I had a very spontaneous education in Rooster dominance. I got very confused when they started jumping on each other even though their both males. In the interest of keeping this blogs PG rating, the picture may not feature here.

But we did find a few nice markets. Setup for tourist quantities 20 times higher than what we experienced today, but I guess that just shows that we picked a good time to go. And I'm rather surprised that Cairns has a dedicated Night Market. In Canberra, a town with something like 3 times the population doesn't have anything that seems to stay open beyond 17:00.

And Cairns was also part of an IronMan event. Some sort of multi-athlon involving at least bikes and runners, which blocked a few roads, and definitely kept the inner city alive as the runners were coming in. We also came across a "Go Brad!" sign which left me with the desire to go up to every participant and ask "Are you Brad?"

Cairns is certainly being a relaxing town up to now. But the sun has yet to live up to its part of the bargain. Which would be very important if I'm going to try and go exploring the Great Barrier Reef and not freeze to death in the process. Even my die hard Australian travel companies describe the current ocean temperature as "a bit cold". Which basically means I'm going to be popsicle on contact.

Anyway, here's hoping the sun decides to surprise me tomorrow.
