Scenic ocean

My travel companion makes a lot of comments about how it's safe to do certain things again, now that he's close to Italy. Amongst this list has been ordering coffee and eating pizza. To this list, I would like to add a life lesson that I got to learn yesterday: if you want a crepe, go to France. The production of this "pancake" was so painful to watch that I had to hide around the corner, even if I did eat it afterwards.

Being very close to old town, we basically get greeted daily with a beautiful view of the ocean (once we dragged ourselves out of our apartment). But somehow, this doesn't even begin to compare with walking up a small hill, and getting the proper panoramic sight of the hills, the city, the water, and the activity between it all. I have to admit, there's a reason that when you search through Google images for Croatia, you get lots of pictures of the coast.

Whenever we are close to the water, it's always easy to hear when one of the sea planes takes off. Today, to add to the show, we also had some ancient bi-plane flying low over the city, with an engine that sounded worthy of a Harley Davidson. I'm surprised that you can get away with these kind of sound levels so close to the city, but I guess anything for the tourists.

Our bus to the airport caught itself in a bit of a traffic jam, making a lot of people rather nervous. When we then started picking up our car, we also quickly realised that the reason that the price was so cheap was that it literally had no insurance on it. Driving in a foreign country, we quickly decided to bring the price up a little, and drove it back to the city, circling the streets for a while and trying to figure out what the parking rules are. We hope it's still there tomorrow.

And that's the plan for tomorrow: my travel companion apparently already had the perfect next destination, but won't tell me because he's afraid of mispronouncing it... we'll see.
