Shandong University (山東大學)

So I finally found out why accessing my blog from China is so painful. The answer: the blog template uses a font hosted by google, and my browser always hangs attempting to get this particular font. So, I'm sorry if this blog looks a little bit more shabby than usual, but at least I'll be able to write to you.

We were guided on top of the 13 story library building today, from which we got a nice view of Weihai and the university. Impressively, you could look all the way to the competition, though I don't seem to be able to find the name of the other university.

It was impressive however that:

  • You look in one direction, and you see ocean and blue sky.
  • You look in the other direction, you see a coal power plant and no blue sky.

And we managed to teach our first class today. Lesson learnt: it's easy teaching recursion but it's hard to explain the difference between ghci and a text editor. sigh
