Slow and Steady Railway Progress
The last train we took was obviously too complicated to work properly. It was an Express train, it needed to get split halfway, things were bound to break. So this time we took the slow and steady Intercity, which still did 130km/h and as such is still breaking any speed limit in Australia, but certainly wasn't in any rush either.
We were clever enough to reserve seats (the last two seats which were actually next to each other, as opposed to merely somewhere in the same wagon), with a lot of people making themselves comfortable on various pieces of floor, and another set of people which seemed to simply walk the train up and down in hope that someone jumped out the window. This having been a 7 trip, it was long enough without having to "rough it".
Making it to our destination, it should have been an easy trip on the local trains, and another stop on the subway to get to the door step of our hotel. This however got more complicated when the train suddenly stopped a few stations before a sensible terminus according to the map. Eventually (with not a lot of signs to for example, tell someone what's going on) we found a bus that continued the journey along the stations that were under maintenance. This bus trip was glorious considering that the bus was filled to the brim, and took a route where the bus manage to turn 90 degree turns into three point turns. At least the subway seemed unphased by all of this.
A brief evening stroll was still possible after all of this, which seemed to land us directly in the next festival of people wearing very many colours, and not wearing very many clothes. There were also many people in skin tight clothing with many sponsors, and a lot of Currywurst. The last part was appreciated. The lack of Butter Pretzels was not. Try again tomorrow I guess.
