Snow
Todays drive went upwards. Plenty of spectacular views and even briefly snow, though luckily not enough to make an impact on the road. We also went through a scarily well armed police patrol that luckily didn't seem particularly interested in our German number plate. And then another windy mountain road up brought us to tonights stop-over village.
Opinion on arrival: it's cold. Unbelievably cold. I stopped taking pictures at some point due to the fact that every time I took the camera out, my hands got even colder. Though there was definitely no questioning the view, looking along a massive valley at the snow covered mountains. We were at 1300m, while the mountains were somewhere north of 3000m. The clouds however weren't which means that the world looked a bit like it had a bit of a rendering issue above roughly 2000m and just replaced it with fog.
It's been a long time since I've heard the sound of snow crunching under my feet. Or the feet of anybody when it comes to that. It certainly triggers a few memories, especially when the snowball flew past my nose. And even more when it hit me. And then came the memories of what it felt like to have snow getting into your shoes and melt ice cold around your socks. Oh how memories hurt. But at least we successfully managed to ruin and graffiti a perfectly innocent piece of snow. Even if I had to almost roll down multiple times as I kept on losing my footing.
Tomorrow is actually my last day. I didn't get as much leave as the rest and therefore have to head home alone. I've already booked myself window seats so that I have a tiny little bit of extra space to lean against in case my neighbor refuses to be a pillow or doesn't look sufficiently pillow shaped. But I still have a day before I have to worry about all that. phew
