Tourist Town
In further acts of jealousy in what I saw in my previous trip through Japan without my current travel companion, we went to have a look at the train museum in Kyoto. No complaints there. If you know me, you know I like trains, and it is a rather cool museum.
To make sure that we have enough other things to do in Kyoto, they reached for the tourist guide and picked something that seemed cool. On our arrival, my travel companion quickly realised that the there is an over arching theme to all destinations recommended by a tourist guide. It's a place to find tourists. And Kyoto is already one of the busiest tourist places in Japan. As proven by the addition of a third language to all train and other announcements.
That said, we certainly still seem to be travelling in the down season at the moment.
Coming from a place like Australia, it's a little bizzare to think about the water from the Japanese perspective. In Australia, everything down to the toilets have a water rating and there are restrictions about how green you can keep your lawn. Here … it's hard to stop everything from overgrowing everywhere in a complete and utter abundance of water. Which I guess does make the place pretty good for the water requirements of rice growing.
Time is starting to run a little thin. Not too much longer and I will have to give up the comfort of crowded trains and hop back into my point-to-point car. Troll through electronics web pages with an ad-blocker as opposed to navigating through a maze of Japanese description while getting the Yodabashi theme song stuck in my head. Go to work as opposed to watching the numbers go down in my bank account.
