Würzburg

Weeks of no rain they said. A heat wave they warned. I'm not too sure we speak the same language because in my heat waves, I'm not slowing down to 50 on the country roads due to only being able to see 20 feet in front of the car. In fact, at some point we just stopped driving and waited it out. The point of driving the "Romantic Street" is for the view, and 20 feet of view included no romance.

Eventually the rain let off, though clear blue skies continued to not be an option. We did originally find the Romantic Street right out of Dickelsbühl, but presumably missed a sign in the rain somewhere and made our own romantic journey onto Würzburg. I don't know whether the real romantic street would have had anything better on it, but the views from yesterday were definitely not topped. Oh well.

Würzburg Residence Castle. Washinoko for scale. Battery brick to stop Washinoko from being blown into the Main.

Computer scientists are well known for several things, including an inability to name things. I don't think they have anything on the germans though given that a lot of the street names use highly original things like 'long street' or 'old street'. Occasionally you even get 'new street'. Often you will get things like 'police road' or 'post road', and on these you will generally, at some point, have found the named thing. Today we arrived at Würzburg; literally translating to 'Spice/Herb Castle'. Except somehow I doubt that the thing up on that hill is that.

Würzburg also failed to give us the warm greeting we've been hoping for. You can see how windy it was given that there's only about 10 minutes between the two previous pictures and you can see that the clouds went from showing the castle as a place of gloom to being a place of enlightenment. Is this some trick for tourists to make sure we get the full experience of all the seasons? Because having the wind being strong enough to blow the metal cuttlery of off our restaurant table is not a useful trick ... Plus insert long contiued rant about wasps.

Würzburg marks the end of the Romantic road, and equally my Europe trip is slowly coming to a close. Tomorrow we head back to family, to prepare for the next set of festivities, after which I will be heading back to the airport. Maybe Germany will try to win some favour in the last few days in terms of weather but I've stopped reading the forecast because they all seem to be lying anyway. 😔

With the sun setting, the wind seemed to calm down a bit and I dared to show my nose outside again. Have some night excursion pictures:
